Buffalo Public School teacher placed on paid administrative leave

A BPS teacher is facing charges after being accused of trying to engage in an online relationship with a teenager.

AMHERST, N.Y. — A Buffalo Public School teacher is facing charges after being accused of trying to engage in an online relationship with a teenager.

Steven C. DeMart, 36, thought he was talking to a 13-year-old girl online, Amherst Police said Thursday in a statement. An investigation by the department's Special Victims Unit led to a charge of attempted endangering the welfare of a child.

Buffalo Public Schools said they are aware of the allegations and placed DeMart on a paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

DeMart was released on an appearance ticket.
