BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Police made two arrests in connection to an incident where two officers were injured early Thursday.
Police investigated the area of Kerns Avenue in the City of Buffalo around 1 a.m. 2 On Your Side went to the scene, where a heavy police presence was found.
According to a Buffalo Police official, two officers were injured during an incident. One of the injured officers was hit with a car, but both are reported to have non-life threatening injuries.
Police provided more details Thursday afternoon, when they announced that 34-year-old Larry Rogers of West Seneca and 23-year-old Kayanna Lee of Buffalo faced a list of charges.
The sequence of events started around midnight, when an officer responded to a trespassing call on Blake Street. That's where police said they saw two people, a man and a woman, in the back of parked vehicle in a driveway.
"Officers gave commands to the occupants to unlock the doors and open the windows, but the male jumped into the driver's seat and started the vehicle instead," police said in a statement.
Police called the driver's handling of the vehicle reckless, going both forward and in reverse. The car was driven through shrubs and a fence before striking a pole in the backyard of a Kerns Avenue home.
Police then arrested both people, identified as Rogers and Lee.
"The male occupant resisted being handcuffed, while the female occupant was apprehended without incident," police said, adding that "approximately 2.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a scale, and $1,823 in cash were recovered."
Two officers were injured while making the arrest.
The list of charges Rogers faces includes:
- one felony count of assault;
- one felony count of reckless endangerment;
- two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance;
- one felony count of criminal mischief;
- one misdemeanor count of criminal use of drug paraphernalia;
- one misdemeanor count of obstruction of governmental administration; and
- one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
Lee has been charged with one felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance; one misdemeanor count of criminal use of drug paraphernalia; and one misdemeanor count of obstruction of governmental administration.
The investigation is ongoing.
