BUFFALO, N.Y. — One person is in custody in connection to the fatal shooting that happened last month on Hertel Avenue.
Buffalo Police on Saturday did not provide any other details on the shooting, which happened around 1 a.m. on May 7 on the 1500 block of Hertel Avenue. That's where 46-year-old Madjid Elbert was shot once outside of Del Denby Tavern.
Elbert was rushed to Erie County Medical Center, where he was declared dead.
Less than a day after the shooting, a notice of closure was posted at the North Buffalo bar at 1553 Hertel Avenue. The notice cited the tavern was being closed "in preservation of peace and good order."
Police said Elbert and the alleged shooter were known to each other, and that they were together inside the bar when an argument erupted, followed by a physical altercation and the shooting.
"I would say to the community that these situations, as we've seen, can happen anywhere. The one big takeaway is that they were known to each other. This is not a random act," Buffalo Police Chief of Detectives Craig Macy said last month.
