BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man was arraigned in court Friday, accused of falsifying DMV documents following a fatal pedestrian accident.

Mohammed R. Tanbir, 27, is charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree and three counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the First Degree.

According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, Tanbir was driving a vehicle on Elmwood Avenue on July 15, 2023, when he allegedly hit a pedestrian near Elmwood and Forest avenues.

The pedestrian, Sydney C. Lohr, 21, was taken to ECMC by ambulance where she later died.

Investigators say Tanbir was allegedly operating the vehicle with heavily tinted windows.

After the accident, officials say Tanbir submitted false forms to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, claiming a medical exemption allowed him to install the window tints legally.

They say he allegedly stated he had a medical condition and falsified a doctor's signature on forms in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Tanbir is scheduled to return to court on September 26.  If convicted, he could face up to seven years in prison.
