BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man is heading to prison for strangling his aunt to death in her east side apartment last year.
State Supreme Court Judge John Michalski Monday sentenced 28-year-old Luis Lopez-Rivera to the maximum-25 year to life in prison for the murder of 47-year-old Maria Rivera. She was killed on February 10, 2018 in her Sobieski Street home.
In March, a jury found Lopez-Rivera guilty of a single count of murder in the second degree.
In addition to the prison time, Judge Michalski also ordered the defendant to pay the maximum fine of $5,000 for the crime.
