BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man charged with murder died Thursday while being taken to the Erie County Courthouse.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office said that 78-year-old Donald McCoy had a history of medical problems, with the most recent being a brain infection. He was treated at Erie County Medical Center, then transported to court for a competency hearing when he suddenly collapsed.
Sheriff's deputies administered CPR, but Mc-Coy remained unreponsive.
McCoy has been in custody for three years, having been charged with the murder of his partner Adele Oliver back in 2020.
"Consistent with all in custody deaths, the Erie County Sheriff's Office has notified the New York State Attorney Generals Office and the New York State Commission of Correction," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
