Buffalo man arrested after alleged domestic assault

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Police Department announced on Thursday a Buffalo man has been arrested in connection with an alleged domestic assault that happened on Monday, October 21. 

According to police, E district officers responded to a domestic violence call on the 100 block of Stevens Avenue around 10:30 p.m. 

Jaquan Williams, 30, of Buffalo was arrested on Monday following the incident. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they spoke with a woman who claimed she was assaulted at her home which was further down the street. She said there was a verbal altercation that soon began physical with Williams, who she knew. 

Williams then allegedly threw an 8-month-old baby onto a couch and attacked the woman, striking her with closed fists and choking her until she lost consciousness.. The victim told police that Williams took her phone so she couldn't call 911. 

The woman was able to leave the home with her two children and run down the street to call 911 for help. During that time, Williams left the house and drove away in his car. 

Officers found the car near William's home on the 100 block of Fulton Street. Officers had began the process to impound the car when Williams appeared. He was arrested at the scene without incident, police said. 

The woman was treated on the scene by AMR. There is no information on the baby that Williams reportedly threw. 

Williams faces one felony count of strangulation, one felony count of aggravated criminal contempt, one misdemeanor count of assault, one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child, one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, one misdemeanor count of petit larceny, and one harassment violation. 

The BPD investigation found Williams was in violation of an order of protection at the time of the assault. This was the second time Williams was in violation of the order.
