TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — A Buffalo man was arraigned on Tuesday in connection to an incident where a Town of Tonawanda Police officer was struck while sitting inside a patrol vehicle.
The incident involving 20-year-old Kahill J. Reeves happened on Monday, Jan. 22. The Erie County District Attorney's Office said Reeves was arraigned in Tonawanda Town Court on the following offenses:
- one felony count of attempted assault on a peace officer, police officer, fireman, or EMS professional;
- one felony count of reckless endangerment;
- one felony count of grand larceny;
- one felony count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle;
- one felony count of grand larceny;
- one felony count of criminal mischief;
- one misdemeanor count of unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle;
- one misdemeanor count of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle;
- one misdemeanor count of reckless driving;
- and a number of vehicle and traffic law violations.
Prosecutors said the sequence of events started around 7:48 p.m. on Jan. 22, when Tonawanda Police officers responded to Dupont Avenue for a report of a stolen Ford F-150 truck. It was reportedly taken from the victim’s driveway, with a key left inside the vehicle.
"During the investigation, a Town of Tonawanda Police officer observed the defendant enter the stolen vehicle, which was parked in a driveway of another residence on the 1400 block of Sheridan Drive," the Erie County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday in a statement.
"The defendant allegedly drove the vehicle in reverse at a high-rate of speed and intentionally hit the occupied police patrol vehicle."
Reeves does not have a valid drivers license, prosecutors said. He was taken into custody by New York State Police, and his next court appearance is at 2 p.m. Thursday. He was held on bail set at $10,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
Reeves faces up to seven years in prison, if convicted on all charges.
Reeves has four other criminal cases pending.
On Dec. 21, 2023, Reeves allegedly worked with another man to take someone's property from a locker at a fitness facility on McKinley Parkway in the Town of Hamburg. Later, he was allegedly found in possession of the victim’s wallet, credit cards, and keys. Reeves is scheduled to be arraigned in that case at 9 a.m. Friday in Hamburg Town Court.
On Nov. 3, 2023, Reeves and three others were allegedly involved stolen vehicle-related case that involved a state police chase and ended with a crash in North Buffalo.
On Nov. 4, 2023, Reeves and three other people were arraigned for their alleged involvement in another stolen vehicle-related case.
