BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man is accused of assaulting a woman in Shoshone Park on Sunday.
Lamont K. Love, 34, of Buffalo was arraigned in Buffalo City Court Sunday on one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, one count of Assault in the Third Degree, and one count of Harassment in the Second Degree.
Investigators say Love was riding a bicycle around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when he allegedly approached the victim who was walking in Shoshone Park in the City of Buffalo.
Love allegedly jumped off his bicycle and attacked the victim, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office. Buffalo Police say the victim told them Love allegedly punched her and then slammed her to the ground before subjecting her to sexual contact without her consent.
The victim was able to escape and call for help.
"I do want to take a minute to commend the survivor of this attack," said Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia. "She valiantly fought, and then she also used great communication skills and de-escalation skills during this attack to get the situation to calm down."
Love is scheduled to return to court on March 8 for a felony hearing. While prosecutors requested that he be held without bail, the judge set bail at $10,000 cash, or bond. A temporary order of protection has been issued on behalf of the female victim.
"I personally feel that everyone should be remanded," said Erie County District Attorney John Flynn. "We take this seriously, and if you do this, you're going to face the consequences, and the consequences are, you're removed from society, and you're put behind bars."
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, Love was still in police custody.
