Bomb threat under investigation in Fredonia

Reports of a bomb threat shut down parts of East Main Street in the Village of Fredonia Thursday morning.

FREDONIA, N.Y. — Several agencies responded to a report of a bomb threat in the Village of Fredonia on Thursday morning.

Fredonia Police received a call around 8 a.m. Thursday that a person inside a vehicle parked at Crosby's on East Main Street was using a shotgun to honk the horn of the car while sitting in the back seat.

Upon arrival, officers found a red SUV with a horn honking, parked in the parking lot.

Police approached the vehicle and saw towels and blankets hanging from the windows, blocking the officer's view.

Both an adult male and female were ordered to get out. Once out of the car, both occupants claimed that a bomb was inside the SUV.

Bomb technicians from the Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County Sherriff’s Department Hazardous Device Units then used robots to search the vehicle.

Additionally, a K9 unit from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was used to continue the search.

Upon initial investigation, the scene was declared safe and it was determined that a pellet/BB gun was being used to honk the car's horn. No shotgun was found.

Police did not confirm if there was a bomb found on the scene.

Charges will follow pending further investigation, according to Fredonia Police.
