Woman who allegedly stole $800 worth of Barbie toys, led police on high-speed chase arrested

A Buffalo woman allegedly stole $800 worth of Barbie toys in Lockport and fled police at speeds of more than 100 mph.

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A Buffalo woman who allegedly stole $800 worth of Barbie toys in Lockport and fled police at speeds of more than 100 mph is facing charges.

The charges for 26-year-old Emoni J. Thompson include petit larceny, fleeing an officer, and several traffic tickets.

New York State Police say the sequence of events began at 12:19 p.m. Thursday, at a Walmart on South Transit Road in the Town of Lockport. That's where troopers had been called in following a larceny complaint.

An investigation allegedly showed that Thompson left the store with $800 worth of Barbie toys without paying, then left the scene in a 2016 Ford Escape. State troopers activated emergency lights and attempted to stop her vehicle when the vehicle was located, but they said Thompson drove at speeds of more than 100 mph.

Citing excessive speeds and public safety, troopers terminated the chase. She was later arrested and processes at the State Police station in Lockport.

Thompson received an appearance ticket for Town of Lockport Court in December.
