Amherst Police respond to multiple fights at Old Home Days

Amherst Police officers had to respond to multiple fights throughout the park during the carnival.

AMHERST, N.Y. — Amherst Police say they've had to respond to several fights involving teenagers at the annual Old Home Days carnival. 

On July 16, just before 10pm, police say there were numerous fights between juveniles at different areas of Island Park, where the carnival is held every year.  Police say the fights were over by the time officers arrived, and no arrests were made. 

A short time later that night, police say a female allegedly punched a male in the head repeatedly.  At this time, police say the man declined to press charges, but their investigation in on going. 

On July 19, investigators say several fights broke out between teens in different areas of the park.  Officers were able to break up the fights and restore order at the park.  Police say the  teens allegedly continued fighting after leaving the park, including one fight that had to be broken up by police on S. Cayuga Road.  

Police made three arrests: 

  • A 19 year-old-male from Cheektowaga was arrested for Disorderly Conduct (for Fighting in Public). He was released with an appearance ticket.
  •  A 17-year-old male from Buffalo, was also arrested for Disorderly Conduct (for Fighting in Public). That teen is facing an additional charge of Obstructing Governmental Administration and Harassment\ for allegedly punching an officer in the head.. He was released on an appearance ticket to Family Court.
  •  An 18-year-old male from Buffalo was arrested for Disorderly Conduct (for Fighting in Public). He was released with an appearance ticket.

No names are being released at this time.
