Amherst man arrested following standoff with police

North Bailey Avenue has been reopened following a domestic incident that caused Amherst PD to close the area off from traffic Tuesday morning.

AMHERST, New York — The Amherst Police Department have reopened North Bailey Avenue following a standoff involving a domestic incident Tuesday morning. 

The incident happened around 1am on the 4800 block of North Bailey Avenue between Maple Road and Sheridan Drive. 

When Police had arrived at the scene, a male had reportedly led the residence and an NFTA K9 searched the surrounding neighborhood with no results.  The male was later seen going back into the house through a rear window. Police were able to help a woman and two children who were inside safely leave while the male was hiding in the attic. 

Once located in the attic, the male, who has been identified as Rayquell Grant of Amherst, was arrested and charged with criminal contempt in the 1st degree, criminal obstruction of breathing, add endangering the welfare of a child. 

Amherst Police were assisted by the NFTA Police, Tonawanda Police, and twin City Ambulance.
