Amherst Police reopen Bailey Avenue

In an initial statement, officers did not elaborate on why they made the announcement on Monday night.

AMHERST, N.Y. — The Amherst Police Department is asking people to avoid Bailey Avenue on Monday night.

Bailey Avenue has since been reopened to traffic as of 10:55 p.m. 

In a message at 9:30 p.m., officers said that there is an increased police presence in the area of Main Street and Bailey Avenue. For about a half hour, northbound and southbound traffic on Bailey Avenue was blocked between Main Street and Grover Cleveland Drive. The road is now reopened.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the increased police presence or what led them to take the action.
