Albion Police warn residents of text message scams

Police say you that if you get a random text that seems too good to be true, it usually is, so you should not respond.

ALBION, N.Y. — Police in the Orleans County Village of Albion are warning residents about a number of scams targeting people by text message recently.

Some of those fraudulent texts ask for money for a sick member of the clergy to pay advance taxes on a cash prize you won, or to ask you to buy Walmart gift cards to win a prize.

Albion Police say victims have lost thousand of dollars to these text scams.

An investigation is now underway, but police say that if you get a random text that seems too good to be true, it usually is, so you should not respond.
