Air 1 helicopter helps with 6 arrests in connection to stolen vehicles

Two of those arrests involved the same 14-year-old girl.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Erie County Sheriff’s Air 1 helicopter assisted Buffalo Police with six arrests during the past week, all in connection to stolen vehicles.

Two of those arrests involved the same 14-year-old girl, according to the Buffalo Police Department.

According to officers, the first arrest happened on Thursday, when a stolen vehicle was tracked to Central Park Plaza and Hill Street, near McCarthy Park some time past 4 a.m. A 14-year-old Buffalo girl was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The next morning, around 9:30 a.m., police say Air 1 assisted in tracking another vehicle stolen at Leroy Avenue and Holden Street. The vehicle was tracked to the 200 block of Hastings Avenue, where five occupants fled on foot.

Investigators say the same 14-year-old girl from Thursday was arrested, along with a 16 and 17 year-old boy, 18-year-old Nojaved Serrano, and 19-year-old Willie Weeden. They were all charged with one felony count of criminal possession of stolen property and one misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Weeden also received one felony county of grand larceny.  According to court records, Weeden was arraigned in Buffalo City Court on April 27and pled not guilty to the charges.  Bail was set at $5,000, which was posted. Weeden was released on April 29.  His next court date is May 1.

Serrano also pled not guilty in Buffalo City Court.  He is expected to appear in Buffalo City Court as well on May 1 for a felony hearing. 

Due to her age, 2 On Your Side has been unable to confirm the current status on the 14-year-old girl.
