BUFFALO, N.Y. — Three people were sentenced to prison following a violent attack in the Broadway-Bailey neighborhood in 2023.

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, brothers Amonti Atkins, 24, and Amari Atkins, 28, both of Buffalo, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, assault, and gang assault. They were both sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Their uncle, Demetrius Gore, 53, of Buffalo, also pleaded guilty to second degree assault and sentenced to five years in prison.

Investigators say Amonti Atkins stabbed the victim in the face after a dispute near the OVO Clean Bottle and Can Redemption Center on Broadway and Deshler Street. The three family members then kicked and punched the victim as he laid on the ground. Gore stomped on the victim’s face and the three continued to punch and kick the victim until he was unconscious, according to the DA’s office.

“This was a brutally violent attack that occurred in broad daylight,” said Acting Erie County DA Mike Keane in a release. “I hope that the victim feels that justice has been served by all three defendants pleading guilty to felony charges and receiving state prison sentences for this vicious crime.”

The victim was taken to ECMC and continues to recover in a long-term care facility.
