BATAVIA, N.Y. — Two teenagers were arrested after reports of two stolen vehicles early Thursday in the City of Batavia.
One vehicle was stolen on La Cross Avenue and was later located near the second stolen vehicle, which was taken from Cherry Street. Both vehicles had been left unlocked and were running in the owners' driveways.
Village of LeRoy Police Department officials located one of the stolen vehicles and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The person driving that vehicle did not comply, police said, leading to a pursuit that spilled into Monroe County. The chase ended in North Chili, where one person was taken into custody.
A second occupant in the vehicle fled on foot but was taken into custody with help from Monroe County Sheriff's deputies.
A 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman from Rochester were charged with grandy larceny by the City of Batavia Police Department, plus criminal and traffic charges by LeRoy Police.
"The teenagers were processed by the the Department's Youth Detective, issued an appearance ticket, and released to their guardians per NYS Law," City of Batavia Police said.
Police urged residents to lock their cars and not leave them running while unattended.
