HAMBURG, N.Y. — Two drivers have pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter after they both contributed to a collision that claimed the life of a teenage girl.
The DA says that Justin Trane, 30, was driving drunk and that Dylan Wiza, 18, was driving high when they crashed into each other on McKinley Parkway last August.
Wiza's back seat passenger, a 15-year-old girl, was found unresponsive and later died from her injuries.
Both men were released on bail and will be sentenced in August.
The crash happened around 11:50 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2023, in at the intersection of McKinley Parkway and Quinby Drive.
The Hamburg Police Department said an SUV driven by Wiza of Williamsville crashed with a van driven by Trane of Lewiston.
Both drivers, plus a 16-year-old and 15-year-old in the SUV, were taken to the hospital. The 15-year-old died from her injuries.
Wiza in December was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter and one count of aggravated driving while intoxicated, under the influence of cannabis. He was also charged violations for failure to yield to the right of way and crossing a highway divider.
Trane in December was charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter two counts of driving while intoxicated, under the influence of alcohol. He was also charged with two vehicle and traffic law violations for speeding and passing through a red light.
Both Wiza and Trane are being accused of contributing to the crash by the Erie County District Attorney's Office.
The Town of Hamburg Police Department Accident Investigation Unit worked on the investigation.
