18-year-old charged after striking Erie County Sheriff's Office vehicle

Savveyon Izel faces 10 different charges after an incident occurred at McDonald's in the City of Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An 18-year-old has been charged with allegedly stealing a vehicle and ramming into an Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit vehicle.

Police say Savveyon Izel was seen at a McDonald's on William Street in the City of Buffalo operating a stolen BMW.

Once officers identified Izel, they attempted to take him into custody. He then placed the stolen vehicle in reverse, striking an Erie County Sheriff's vehicle and injuring the deputy inside.

Izel then started to drive off, almost hitting another officer on the scene, prompting officials to discharge a single round from a department-issued weapon.

The charges associated with the incident include:

  • Assault on a Peace Officer, Police Officer, Fireman or EMT
  • Attempted Assault on a Peace Officer, Police Officer, Fireman, or EMT
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Two counts of Criminal Mischief
  • Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Obstructing Governmental Administration
  • Multiple violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law

Izel is being held at the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment.
