Buffalo Public School students get to skate

Students and staff can use the free passes they have been given to connect with one another for a fun time this winter.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Public School students and staff will gather together for well-deserved winter fun.

Rich Family Foundation and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield donated over 46,000 ice skating passes to the Ice at Canalside for Buffalo Public Schools on Monday, December 4.

The tickets will be distributed across the district and can be used anytime throughout the year.  The donors point out that this is not only a fun experience but also allows students and staff to enjoy winter activities together that are hard to come by for some.

Superintendent of Buffalo Public Schools, Dr. Tonja Williams, said she appreciates the generous donation for the children who don't normally have this opportunity.

Highmark's Michael Ball says that the message to BPS is to embrace the winter months and use this opportunity to stay healthy and connected to other people.

"This is a partnership that spans an entire decade for us, bringing millions of people here to enjoy healthy activities to the Buffalo Waterfront in the coolest months, when it's traditionally a tough time for everybody to stay active and healthy," Ball said.
