commUNITY spotlight: NBA player Jordan Nwora brings his summer camp to Buffalo

Jordan Nwora of the Toronto Raptors never forgets to help the kids in Buffalo.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — NBA champion and Toronto Raptors player Jordan Nwora is giving back to his hometown of Buffalo, NY, and the community through basketball camps and his foundation

“Every day it's just about teaching these kids, helping them learn, grow, and hopefully develop a love for the game of basketball,” he said.

The Jordan Nwora Foundation was founded in 2020 and since its inception, Nwora has run 22 camps in multiple countries, giving back to over 5,000 kids. The July basketball camp in Buffalo drew close to 200 participants.

“I definitely hope to continue to do this,” he added “Every year just continue to grow and expand the camp and just keep giving back as much as I can."

For Nwora it is more than teaching kids about basketball.

“We have some great leaders in here, both locally and from overseas,” he added. “Showing how to lead, be great teammates, be cooperative with each other so you know, it's been great.”

The Park School of Buffalo located in Amherst is where the alumnus aims to instill values in kids through sports—building leadership, self-discipline, and physical and emotional health.

“A lot of these kids who are great, they're learning, but they're not at the level yet where I can talk to them like a college kid or a pro,” he said. “But hopefully with these camps, it'll help them get to that one day.”

The organization promotes opportunities for underserved children and communities.
