commUNITY spotlight: Buffalo Fashion Runway - Black Carpet

A platform to shine a light on local Buffalo fashion designers, poets, and musical artists.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Fashion Runway - Black Carpet is a celebration of diversity through the arts.  The event will highlight local designers, artists, dance crews, and poets.

Organizers call it a celebration for Black History Month. "Designers curate, at least one or two items geared towards the theme of Black history," said Chad Williams, co-founder of Buffalo Fashion Runway.

For the last walk of the night, instead of traditional models, 10 Buffalo Black Icons will be honored. They are local influencers and leaders doing outstanding work in the community.

Cain McDermott, co-founder of  Buffalo Fashion Runway said he is "excited to see the creativity in Buffalo showcased on the level that we're producing. We're really trying to connect two different realms of business with the startup community and the creative community. What we're really trying to do is create a room that shows exactly what Buffalo is and what Buffalo can be as well."

"I see the potential in Buffalo.  There's so much entrepreneurship and diversity. It's so much talent here, we're a 30-minute plane ride from the city (NYC), a hour drive from Toronto. I see Buffalo as a hub or a future hub for fashion for the arts, for creativity for people to come live and thrive," Williams said.

If you ask McDermott, he will tell you "I think we're in the midst of a renaissance here in Buffalo."

The event will be held on Saturday, February 24, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at The Northland Workforce Training Center, 683 Northland Ave. Buffalo, NY.
