BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo's East Side is mourning the loss of a woman who fought tirelessly for her community.
Stephanie Barber Geter was at the forefront of an effort to make Humboldt Parkway a true parkway.
For years she has pressed to repair damage done to her community when the expressway separated a neighborhood. She chaired the Restore Our Community Coalition.
She was instrumental in developing a plan for a tunnel from Dodge to Sidney streets, with trees and green space on top.
Mayor Brown said "for decades, Stephanie Barber Geter worked to help make the Hamlin Park neighborhood, Buffalo’s East Side and the City of Buffalo better. She was a dear friend to many and she will be deeply missed.”
Stephanie Barber Geter was 69 years old.
