BUFFALO, N.Y. — Before Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown exited his mayoral office, one of his last acts was to honor different Buffalo citizens.
Four street signs were named after trailblazing citizens in the Buffalo community.
The corner of Blaine Avenue and Jefferson Avenue will be named after Lucille Colston Hicks. She was a Buffalo Public School teacher and a local block club president.
Sherill Williams Colston will have his name enshrined at the corner of Fillmore Avenue and East Ferry Street. Colston was the longtime owner of Colston Mobile and an East Buffalo business leader.
The corner of Landon Street and the Humbolt Parkway will be named after an inspirational resident who lived to be 108 years old, Ms. Brooksie McCutcheon.
Community Pastor, Hamid Motley’s name will be honored at the corner of Chelsea Place and East Delevan Avenue.
At Delaware Park, the basketball courts will be renamed the Mayor Anthony M. Masiello Basketball Courts. The former mayor was a huge basketball fan who played at Canisius College.
"As you know, Mayor Masiello is my predecessor. He served 3 terms in office," Brown said "I am hopeful that when you think of me, you will think of my thoughts of Mayor Masiello."
Masiello served as Buffalo’s mayor from 1994 to 2005 before Mayor Brown took office.
