KENMORE, NY – Friday was a bittersweet day for many folks close to the Ken-Ton school district and, specifically, Kenmore Middle School.
All night, people here were celebrating the history and the traditions of the school.
Food trucks were out there and a concert was held in the evening.
School closures in Ken-Ton have been talked about for years. Two schools will close: Hamilton and Roosevelt Elementary. Students will be transferred out of Kenmore Middle and the building will house some district offices and pre-k classes.
The district says declining state funding and rising costs led to these changes, which were approved by voters in a budget referendum earlier this week.
Two On Your Side’s Jeff Preval spoke to one teacher who will now be reassigned to another school in the district. She's taught French class in the same room for the past 24 years.
