DARIEN LAKE, N.Y. -- New detection equipment was used this summer for the first time in order to prevent underage drinking and the use of fake IDs at summer concerts.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the results from the statewide crackdown on underage drinking and fake IDs at summer concerts and other popular places on Monday. During the weeks leading up to Labor Day there were a total of 133 arrests and the confiscation of 63 fake IDs.
Some of the concerts at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center were a part of Operation Prevent.
On August 29 at the Rascal Flatts concert there were 20 arrests and seven fake IDs confiscated.
On September 3 at the Luke Bryan concert there were 22 arrests and 11 IDs confiscated. On September 4 at the second Luke Bryan concert there were 42 arrests and 14 fake IDs confiscated.
Leading up to Labor Day, the unannounced enforcement actions were carried out at various concert venues and bars across the state by the Department of Motor Vehicles' Division of Field Investigation in partnership with law enforcement agencies.
During these types of sweeps, anyone in possession of a fake ID is arrested and their fake ID confiscated. People are charged with criminal sanctions and face administrative action that usually results in a suspension of their license for a minimum of 90 days.
