Birthday Cards for WNY Boy with Cancer

The power of social media and the kindness of people all over Western New York and the world are helping to make Andrew Masse's fight against cancer just a little bit easier.

DERBY, N.Y. - Andrew Masse was looking forward to a big birthday pool party with all of his friends, but some devastating news put that celebration on hold.

The 10-year-old, who previously battled a brain tumor, learned his cancer was back. Instead of swimming with friends, he had to have another brain surgery.

Andrew's mom, Jennifer, wanted to try and cheer him up, so she turned to Facebook and asked people if they might send Andrew a birthday card.

She thought they might get a dozen or so from family and friends. They were shocked when, day after day, the mail carrier walked up to the house with bins of cards and packages with return addresses from all across the country and around the world.

They estimate they've gotten more than a thousand cards since early June, and the cards keep coming, which definitely keeps Andrew smiling.

He has a long stay at Roswell Park Cancer Institute ahead of him for his treatment.

If you'd like to send Andrew a card, mail it to:
