BUFFALO, N.Y. — 2 On Your Side asked for your questions about the Trusted Traveler Program, and you have a lot of them.
The question we got the most was, what will happen if my application is pending?
A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and Border Protection said they aren't doing interviews right now with the media, but he gave us information to answer our questions via email.
So, here's the deal: new and pending renewal applications will be canceled.
Which leads to the next most popular question: Will I get a refund?
Some good news here. Yes, a refund will be applied to your account, typically within six to eight weeks of cancellation. Those refunds will be processed automatically, so you don't have to do anything.
A lot of you also wanted to know if this will impact renewals. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says if you're enrolled in Trusted Travel Programs, you'll keep those benefits until your memberships expire.
But New York residents will no longer be eligible to renew membership in the programs. So, if nothing changes, once your membership expires, you lose your benefits.
We also had someone ask if this includes the Enhanced Drivers License. It does not. The Trusted Traveler Programs include Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, and FAST.
It's also important to mention that people who are currently enrolled in the Trusted Traveler Program will still continue to receive TSA PreCheck status when you go through security at the airport, and you can still apply to the TSA PreCheck program separately.
If you're in one of these programs, you're okay to take advantage of it until your card or pass expires.
