BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's only a few days left for the deadline to file your 2023 taxes.
The Internal Revenue Service says at the start of tax season they expect more than 146 million individual tax returns to be filed for 2023. Tax returns are due April 15, 2024.
Many people have already filed and are awaiting returns. Here's how you can find out if your return was processed by the IRS, or NYS Department of Taxation.
The IRS has a Where’s My Refund? tool to check the status of their federal refunds.
New York State residents can check the status of their state tax refund here: https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/refund.htm
If you need help filing your taxes, both the IRS and NYS Tax Department have information on their websites to answer your questions.

NYS Tax Department: https://www.tax.ny.gov/
The IRS will also hold an in-person help session at their Taxpayer Assistance Centers on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 9am-4pm at 130 S. Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14202.
If you don't think you can't make the April 15 deadline, you can file for an extension with the IRS. Click here for more information on how to file an extension: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/extension-of-time-to-file-your-tax-return.
