NY receives more than $360M in HEAP funding for low-income families

Winter weather is coming to us and HEAP will be too, in the next coming month.

NEW YORK — Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-D) announced over $360 million in HEAP funds and is calling for more.

The Home Energy Assistance Program will continue to help eligible homeowners to pay their heating bills and make needed repairs.

Gillibrand made an announcement on Wednesday at a press conference.

The federal funding made available for HEAP is $360,015,351 will help low income families and seniors on fixed incomes, but Gillibrand said that it is not enough.

"We know from past years that this money will not be enough to provide assistance to everyone who qualifies for it. That's why I'm also calling for additional supplemental LIHEAP funding to help ensure that as many New Yorkers as possible receive aid. I'm committed to securing it," Gillibrand said.

The announcement was set to push and hopefully secure the funding for HEAP to help as many qualifying families with assistance as possible to keep them warm and safe this winter.
