Thousands of New York government workers received a pay raise on Thursday

More than 2,100 current state employees across 46 agencies will be impacted by the change.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Thousands of government workers will soon have more money in their pockets.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced pay raises for current state employees working in professional traineeships across 46 agencies. More than 2,100 current state employees will be impacted by the change.

Starting Thursday, employees with the "Trainee 1" job title will move up one pay grade, while "Trainee 2" employees will move up two pay grades.

Hochul said this will help the state recruit and retain talent.

"These pay increases will allow us to retain and attract our state agency and government employees, so that we can continue our mission to bring the highest quality support New Yorkers expect and deserve, now and into the future."

People considered Trainee 1 will move from Grade 13 ($49,363 annually) to Grade 14 ($52,198).

People considered Trainee 2 will move from Grade 14 ($52,198) to Grade 16 ($58,247).
