CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — On Monday, it was announced that the City of Tonawanda Fire Department would be receiving over $100,000 in federal funding.
At a press conference, Congressman Brian Higgins and the City of Tonawanda Mayor Rick Davis announced a $106,145 grant given to the Fire Department to help buy new equipment. The grant came from the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
“This funding ensures that not only will our Fire Department be well equipped to handle any emergency, but that our residents can rest assured that critical equipment will work in their greatest time of need," Davis said.
The grant will be used to purchase 14,000 feet of hose, 24 new nozzles, three “Blitzfire” ground monitors, and four Piston Intake Valves to replace outdated equipment. The new equipment will help the department respond to larger spills and improve overall response times.
