NEW YORK STATE, USA — As inflation goes up, so will the state's minimum wage starting on January 1.
On Monday, December 11 New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced the secured increase in minimum wage.
New York's minimum wage will increase to $16 per-hour in New York City, Westchester and Long Island. The minimum wage price per-hour for the rest of the state will raise to $15.
As part of the FY 2024 budget, Governor Hochul secured the increase for New York's minimum wage through 2026 and index to inflation beginning in 2027. It will be a $0.50 increase in 2025 and 2026, in 2027 the annual increase will be at a rate determined by Consumer Price Index for Ubran Wage Earners and Clerical Workers for the Northeast Region.
“We are lifting New York’s minimum wage to help hard-working New Yorkers keep up with rising costs and continue supporting their families,” Governor Hochul said.
The New York State Department of Labor will make encouraging outreaches to the community about the increase and wage complaint reminders. Digital outreach through social media, newsletters, e-mail and direct outreach through flyers with other organizations will all be included.
“If you are a minimum wage worker and you don’t see this increase in your paycheck next year, I urge you to file a wage complaint with the Department of Labor to make sure that you are getting the wage increase you deserve," Governor Hochul said.
Workers can and should make a file wage complaint by calling 833-910-4378 or online here.
