BUFFALO, N.Y. — With temperatures dropping here in Western New York, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand wants to remind people that they can apply for federal help to pay their heating bills.
Applications for the low-income Home Energy Assistance Program are open, and $360 million in funding has been secured so far this year for the state.
"New York households can now apply to receive what's called the regular HEAP benefit, which provides up to $1,000 in heating assistance per program year. Eligible New Yorkers can apply for this funding either in person, through the mail, or online."
HEAP assistance can also help fund repairs to heating systems.
