BUFFALO, N.Y. — The East Side of Buffalo is getting a major economic boost to help re-develop Jefferson Avenue.
Erie County lawmakers have secured $3.2 million for the project to build more affordable housing, pharmacies, and primary care offices, as well as creating more entrepreneurial opportunities for residents.
Community leaders hope these projects help to rebuild a marginalized community that once thrived.
"Black Buffalo is back," said 1st District Legislator Howard Johnson Jr. "There is a change in the winds. There is a change in our community."
Added Erie County Legislature Chairperson April Baskin, "Many communities are like Jefferson Avenue. Once vibrant, once bustling communities... and they have been left behind in the economic renaissance of Buffalo."
The investment also includes construction for a new Buffalo Urban League Headquarters.
