CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Cheektowaga residents had their chance to ask questions and address concerns face to face with the town's top official at a town hall on Saturday morning.
Cheektowaga Supervisor Brian Nowak met people in the auditorium of Cleveland Hill High School on Mapleview Road, where one topic of discussion was the new town budget, which passed this week. It will increase property taxes by 3.5 percent.
2 On Your Side spoke with the town supervisor after the town hall about the budget.
"The tax increases, it's a little more than usual but in the past few years," Brian Nowak said. "2022, 2023, 2024, all three 3 of those years together, there was a combined 3 percent tax increase, while the spending went up 10 percent.
"So one of the problems we've got right now is the budget is a little bit out of balance, just to be straight with people, and there's going to be some work to do in the next year or two to get all that back in line."
This is the fourth town hall held this year. Town leaders said they plan to hold more in the future.
