DUNKIRK, N.Y. — Wells Enterprises, which has an ice cream plant in Dunkirk, was acquired by Italy-based Ferrero Group.
The acquisition, which is expected to close early next year, comes just months after the local plant announced plans to lay off 319 of its 643 employees by the end of the year. The deal will include all of Wells’ operations and brands, including Blue Bunny, Blue Ribbon Classics and Halo Top.
Ferrero began as a pastry shop in Alba, Italy, and grew globally with sweets and brands like Nutella, Kinder and Tic Tac. Ferrero wants to grow in the ice cream industry, according to a news release. You can read the full article on Buffalo Business First's website.
