Upstate Niagara agrees to purchase Byrne Dairy

Terms of the deal, which is expected to close by early December, were not disclosed.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — Upstate Niagara Cooperative has agreed to purchase Byrne Dairy in Syracuse, as well as several distribition centers throughout New York State. 

.“This acquisition is a strategic investment by our member-owners toward continued and long-term growth for our cooperative and will strengthen our ability to continue to provide award-winning products and exceptional customer service while expanding our reach into adjoining markets,” says Lawrence Webster, Chief Executive Officer for Upstate Niagara Cooperative in a released statement. “We are excited and eager to embark on this new chapter of our cooperative’s journey and are committed to completing the transition as seamlessly as possible for the employees and customers impacted.”

As part of the deal, Upstate Niagara agrees to continue using the Byrne Dairy brand.  The company already has several other brands including:  Upstate Farms®, Intense Milk®, Milk for Life®, Bison®, and ValleyFarms®. 

Byrne Dairy’s plants in Dewitt, Cortlandville, ice cream plant in Syracuse, warehouse operations in Syracuse and Dewitt and all of the Byrne Dairy & Deli stores will not be affected by the sale, according to officials. 

This will be the fourth fluid milk plant for Upstate Niagara and ninth manufacturing facility. 

The deal is expected to be finalized in the next 40 days.
