ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. β The Orchard Park Chamber of Commence announced Tuesday morning that they are hoping to bring a popular grocery retailer to the southtowns.
Proposing to have Trader Joe's open another WNY location, the Chamber of Commerce has created a petition to get resident's involved in bringing the proposal to life.
In a social media post the Orchard Park Chamber of Commerce wrote:
"Are you eager to see Trader Joe's in our community? Well, here's our chance to make it happen! Join us in advocating for the opening of Trader Joe's in the Village of Orchard Park!"
"I think it makes perfect sense," said village mayor Jo Ann Litwin Clinton. "They have their Northtowns store and this would be their Southtowns store."
Currently there is only one Trader Joe's location in Western New York, located in Amherst, on Niagara Falls Boulevard. The Amherst location opened in 2013, and has become a popular place to shop among both Western New Yorker's, and people from over the border in nearby Canadian areas.
"I think it would be a welcome change for the customers to be able to come to a place parking there is ample for any size crowd that they get," said Don Lorentz, executive director of the Orchard Park Chamber of Commerce.
Trader Joe's is popular for their unique twist on brand named snacks, organic selections and more.
In the group's petition it explains the benefits another location would make in the community, "Having a location here would not only benefit the residents of Orchard Park, but also serve residents in neighboring areas such as East Aurora, Elma, Hamburg and West Seneca."
The proposed site for the second WNY Trader Joe's would be at 4060 Buffalo Street in Orchard park, the former location of the higher end grocery store Orchard Fresh.
2 On Your Side reached out to Trader Joe's for comment, a spokesperson said:
"We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year. At this time, we do not have a location confirmed in Orchard Park. If anyone has a specific location to suggest, we have a form on our website. There are no guarantees, but being wanted matters to us."
