Say Yes Buffalo adds $2.3M preschool program

The Little Scholars expansion helps complete the continuum the program has been working toward for over a decade, said David Rust, Say Yes executive director.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Say Yes Buffalo is expanding with a new preschool program inside Buffalo Public Schools aimed at 3 year olds.

The Say Yes Little Scholars program opens at two Buffalo schools with $1.1 million in funding from BPS and an expansion of the Erie County child care subsidy. The budget will grow in the fall to about $2.3 million as five more classrooms are added. Say Yes will hire 40 employees to run the program. That includes three Say Yes Buffalo alumni already hired among the first 10 staffers.

The program launched March 31 at West Hertel Academy School #94; a second site opened earlier this month at the Dr. Charles R. Drew Annex #59. By fall, the program will have added another 84 seats to the district’s capacity for 3 year olds, including a pre-existing program at Bennett Park Montessori Center.
