BUFFALO, N.Y. — Western New Yorkers have been waiting since sports betting was legalized months ago to see when they'll be able to put down bets here.
Well, the wait is now over at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in downtown Buffalo.
There was confetti, a ribbon cutting and champagne, all part of the first legal sports bet placed here in the casino on Friday morning.
Now that it's open, bets can only be taken inside of the casino sports lounge located on South Park Avenue, but they can be made at the kiosks there or with a live attendant.
As part of the first-bet ceremony, the President of the Seneca Nation placed the first wager, followed by dozens of other Western New Yorkers.
It's the first sports lounge like this for the Seneca Gaming Corporation, with plans for similar set-ups planned for its casinos in Salamanca and Niagara Falls in the near future.
Seneca Resorts announced last month they are now the exclusive sports book partner of the Sabres, and that along with opening their other two locations, they have plans to eventually set up a way for people to make mobile wagers as well.
