AKRON, N.Y. — At the Perry's Ice Cream headquarters in Akron. N.Y., five generations of Perrys gathered to mark the 100th anniversary if the launch of the local ice cream manufacturer. The current Vice President and Chairman, Brian Perry, told 2 On Your Side he was proud to carry on his grandfather's legacy and looked forward to the company lasting another 100 years.
"We still do it the old-fashioned way, one batch at a time and putting only the 'good stuff' in it", he said.
Perry is part of the fourth generation that now runs the family business founded by H. Morton Perry in 1918. Since then, the company has distributed ice cream throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana.
The company has also grown from one flavor to 75. Perry says the secret is staying rooted in the community and drawing from local resources, like New York Dairy Farms, to make the product.
"Always trying always to be always that much better for our consumers and for our community and with everything that we do".
The company marked the occasion at the beginning of the year with the launch of four "retro flavors". More information about where to get them can be found here.
