BUFFALO, N.Y. — After months of planning and securing financing, a Rochester-based developer is ready to begin the $17 million conversion of a former Buffalo school into apartments.

In one of its final pre-construction steps, CDS Monarch Inc. has bought the long-vacant former School 78 at 321 Olympic Ave., paying $450,000 for the East Side property, according to documents filed Nov. 18 in the Erie County Clerk’s office. CDS Monarch bought the school from the City of Buffalo.

The developer, which has worked on similar projects in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, was selected following a request for proposals and bidding process overseen by the city.
