Tops holds ribbon cutting for $4 million renovation of Lockport store

LOCKPORT, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets welcomed shoppers back to its South Lockport store on Tuesday for the grand reopening. The project totaled nearly $4 million in renovations and is the grocery store chain's largest investment to date since their capital improvement plan over five years ago. 

Shoppers in South Lockport will find new interior and exterior paint with welcoming awnings and landscaping, energy efficient equipment and LED lighting both inside and out, new shopping carts, expanded state-of-the-art self-check outs, renovated restrooms and an enlarged fresh outside with new decorations.

The store also will feature some new, enhances convenience features in the remodel including:

  • A new full service Starbucks Café within the store where you can conveniently use the Starbucks app to order ahead 
  • Pharmacy that has a new, private waiting area which provides a wide variety of services including complex specialty prescriptions, immunizations, the Department of Motor Vehicles vision test, and the new Covid 19 booster for those 65+ 
  • Refurbished fuel station where shoppers get the lowest price in town with Tops GasPoints
  • An innovative Flashfood® program that strives to eliminate food waste by connecting consumers with discounted food nearing its best-by date saving you up to 60% off your purchase
  • A time-saving Shop + Scan app where you use your phone to scan and bag your items as you shop to expedite your check-out 
  • A fast, online ordering with Tops grocery pickup, delivery, and catering services

Tops Markets also noted in a statement, shoppers will find an expanded selection of fresh produce, full-service seafood and meat department, expanded bakery selection, and more fresh grab and go style prepared meals. 

To celebrate the grand reopening, shoppers will have the chance to win prizes like a $1000 Tops gift card, two tickets to a Buffalo Sabres game and a signed jersey, or free Starbucks for a year. 

During the ribbon cutting, Tops also presented multiple community non-profits with donations. Organizations include Kenan Center, Lockport CARES, Inc., Lockport Central Schools, Newfane Community Food Pantry, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Niagara Hospice, Sister Helen's Food Pantry at St. John the Baptist Church in Lockport, South Lockport Fire Company, Inc., Starpoint Central Schools, and VFW 2535 Lockport Post.

“This considerable investment will offer customers a renewed shopping experience starting with associates that the community knows and trust, expanded amenities, and a wide variety of high quality local, national, and own brands all at a great value. We’re excited to officially re-open this location signifying our continued commitment to the South Lockport community,” said Tops Friendly Markets president Ron Ferri in a statement Tuesday.
