BUFFALO, N.Y. — Parts of a law meant to make things better for New York's farm laborers has been put on hold.
It was supposed to take effect Wednesday, but a federal judge on Tuesday night temporarily blocked protections for farm owners, supervisors and family members until another hearing later this month.
Things such as unionizing rights, overtime pay and a guaranteed day off each week still went into effect for workers, though that will also be taken up at the hearing.
Groups representing farmers sued here in Buffalo this week saying the law is not constitutional and could ruin upstate farms.
The next hearing is set for January 24.
