North Buffalo restaurant closes, will move to another location

"After almost 9 years at our Hertel Avenue location, the property and building have been sold," the restaurant said on social media.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The owners of Deep South Taco said the building housing its Hertel Avenue restaurant has been sold, prompting a move to another location.

"After almost 9 years at our Hertel Avenue location, the property and building have been sold. We will be relocating to a new location. Stay tuned for that announcement," the restaurant announced Tuesday on social media.

Deep South Taco on Ellicott Street in downtown Buffalo will remain open for take-out, dine-in, catering, and other events.

"We are very grateful for all the years and fun we have had on Hertel. We will miss our times there but look forward to seeing you at Ellicott Street. Thank you for your kindness and support," Deep South Taco said.

A "casual community meeting" was held back in late August about a project on the southwest corner of Hertel and Starin avenues.

The project, which will be led by Jacob Stiller at Forward Development LLC, will bring a mixed-use development with 52 new apartments and 6,500 square feet of commercial space.

“North Buffalo is an amazing place to live and work, and we want to add to the neighborhood’s vibrancy with our project,” Stiller said in an August statement. “We plan to take a community-focused approach that invites residents to offer input and contributes to the neighborhood’s sense of place, as we work collaboratively to strengthen Hertel Avenue.”

The developer said they plan to achieve "Passive House Certification" and "pursue the highest levels of energy efficiency in creating healthier, more comfortable places to live."
