NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Over the last month or so we've been telling you about the iconic Como Restaurant in Niagara Falls that was set to be auctioned off.
Now it appears that's no longer the case.
An attorney for the restaurant told 2 On Your Side the families who own the restaurant weren't satisfied with the bids for the restaurant on Pine Avenue. So the sale was canceled and they are keeping Como open.
The Como has been operated by several generations of the Antonacci and Colucci families for nearly a century and is a place with almost as big a reputation as the Falls themselves.
Como has been a destination for political functions, sports banquets, and celebrities visiting the Falls for decades. It was set to close because according to the realtor, no one in the next generation of the family wanted to step in and take over.
So, for now, the Como is here to stay.
The current generation of the family has run the Como since it opened in 1927. They announced in September of 2020 that they were putting it up for sale. The pandemic was affecting the sale, so they decided to hold an online auction, which did not yield the results they were hoping for.
