CORFU, N.Y. — The latest change to Six Flags Darien Lake is among the biggest in the theme park's four-decades-plus lifespan, but what it means has yet to come into focus.

Management of the Town of Darien attraction changed hands once again earlier this summer, when Six Flags completed an $8 billion merger with Cedar Fair that will see the outfit operate under the Six Flags name. Aside from Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, Cedar Fair brings 11 other North American parks under the Six Flags name, including Canada's Wonderland, outside of Toronto. The combined company owns and operates 51 properties and is the largest North American theme park operator, as measured by property quantity.

What that means for Darien Lake hasn't been announced. The 988-acre local property is managed by Six Flags but owned by EPR Properties, a Kansas City-based company that bought Darien Lake in 2016; Six Flags acquired operating rights in 2018.
