HAMBURG, N.Y. — Since the start of 2021, the Hamburg shopping center property has been in the foreclosure process, got a new owner, unsuccessfully went through the online auction process and now might be getting another owner.
Why it matters: Across the country, many shopping centers have struggled with the rise of online shopping and pandemic effects. But as some of these malls enter various stages of redevelopment, they have the potential to be economic drivers for their regions. Malls are typically large local employers and taxpayers and attract visitors.
Hamburg Supervisor Randy Hoak has called the McKinley Mall “an important gateway to the Town of Hamburg.”
